Axion Scanner
At CUImaging, we are dedicated to bringing a new multi-format film scanner to the market, designed to make high-quality film digitization much more accessible. Our current focus is on 8mm and 16mm formats. This scanner features continuous high-speed reel-driven scanning at 4K resolution, up to 12-bit high dynamic range, and an adjustable full spectrum light source for optimal color accuracy and color correction. It also incorporates scattered reflection fiber optics for accurate and robust perforation detection, optical and magnetic soundtrack extraction, built-in cleaning rollers, and the possibility to add wet pump module to control scratches and dust.
A key advantage of our scanner is that it does not require a high-end computer. Almost any modern laptop or desktop PC will work. We designed the software with affordability in mind, allowing customers to use their existing computers rather than investing in a dedicated high-performance workstation.
Our goal is to release the product by May 2025, with actual shipping depending on funding, investment, and supply chain logistics, though we are pushing for a shipping date between October and the end of 2025.
In addition to our motion picture scanner, we are also developing a scan station for still photography films and microfilms, though this project is further down the pipeline.
CUImaging was born out of necessity. We built our first scanner for our own use because professional options were simply unaffordable. We quickly realized that many others faced the same challenge. As a family-owned company, we are committed to offering the best possible product at a fair and reasonable price, ensuring that the art of film-based cinematography remains alive and accessible, rather than being limited by high costs.
At this time, we are not taking inquiries, but we encourage you to subscribe for updates. Stay tuned for the latest developments as we bring this project to life!
